Slide Notes:

With Go Search, users can search for both types of resources—professional development resources and classroom resources. As mentioned earlier, many of the resources in Searchlight are extracted from training materials. To find handouts or sample lessons, use the keyword “example lessons.” This search will return a variety of resources including activities and pdfs.
Users do not have to log in to use Go Search or Go Explore—only to take a course.

Go Search is an excellent choice when looking for a wide range of information on a particular topic. Results are returned based on keyword relevancy and, therefore, are not organized in a planned sequence. For more structured instructional materials, take a course in Go Learn or browse topics in Go Explore.

The original content now available in Searchlight was not conceptualized to be disaggregated and searchable. In order to maximize the search ability of the database, training resources have been grouped into units called “concept clusters” and lessons have been put into activities. A concept cluster may include a sequence of presentation slides, videos, professional development information, or example lessons dealing with a particular topic. Activities may include instructional videos, simulations, lessons, and other handouts.

Note to presenter: You may want to refer to the Searchlight Glossary, found in the TIPS section of the home page, which includes:

  •  A description of the navigation terms.
  •  A definition of keywords that organize and filter search results.
  •  A thesaurus of key reading topics.
