Let's take a closer look at fluency instructional activities. Repeated reading is an essential component for building reading fluency. Repeated reading significantly increases reading rate, accuracy, and comprehension. It leads to automatic word recognition through multiple exposures to words and encourages rapid word identification and permits greater attention to understanding the text. Repeated reading is effective for many students, including secondary struggling readers. In addition, modeling, error correction, setting goals, and comprehension activities enhance the effects of repeated reading.
